Small Clay Animal Sculptures e.g. fish, frog, minibeast, reptile or rodent

Ceramic sculpture produced by yr 10,student at Crompton School, Shaw, Oldham

- An excellent introduction to working in clay, inspired by the artist'swork

- The most engaging science/natural history lesson ever

- Suitable for all age groups including adults

- Explore new ways of working with clay

- Building confidence with fail proof individual outcomes guaranteed

- Step by step demonstrations ensures no participant is left behind

Starting out shaping the animal from simple 3D forms (cylinder, cone, sphere), the real fun starts with the making of skin, imprinting and casting texture. - Allows for the expression of ideas and feelings

- Very small pencil drawings are made to "frame" the memory

- Clay is rolled out and trimmed to form a rectangular background

- The image is gradually built up in 3D relief

Wire Bugs and Butterflies

- Explore the different properties of wire made from iron, aluminium and copper

Building Structures / Drawing in Space using newspaper rods, art straws and/or withies

Drawing in space with newspaper rod, construction made by yr 9/10 pupils at St. gabriel's RC High School, Bury

- Newspaper, rolled tightly from corner to diagonally opposite corner, is a wonderful medium for constructing and "drawing in space"

- Suitable for Key Stage 2, 3 and 4

- Make a simple 3 D shape from outlines and cross sections, gradually building outwards

- Suitable for working in pairs or small groups

- Themes: fish, mini-beasts or towering structures
